How to Boil Eggs So They Peel Easy
Peeling eggs can be a pain for many people. The shell will crack or take some of the egg white with them as they come off, if the shell comes off at all. For those of you with these problems there are some quick tips to perfectly peel a hard boiled egg without much effort on your part. So, without further ado…
- Don’t Use Fresh Eggs: the fresher the egg the harder it will be to get the shell off. Use eggs that have been kept in the fridge for a couple days and you’ll have a much better time peeling them.
- Let the Eggs Cool: After boiling them, it is important to get the eggs cooled down quickly. This ensures that they won’t overcook, but also a result it makes them easier to peel.
- Cracking the Eggs:There’s two ways I like to initially crack eggs. The first way, I tap the two ends on the counter or the edge of a bowl. With the ends cracked you can pull from both sides to completely rip off the shell. Another idea is to crack the egg all the way around by tapping it the same way as before. This way you have two “shell halves” that should easily come off whole.
- Peel Under Water: Water seems to get under the shell or wash away the stickiness in some way. Maybe not exactly scientific but it works!
- Salt: Adding salt to the boiling water also can be of help.
