How Long to Keep Leftover Turkey

Published by Doug Cook at 9:55 pm under Cooking Tips

Leftover turkey is a big deal for those who like to roast the entire bird at once, especially around Thanksgiving. Turkey, and other birds for that matter, are very susceptible to food-borne illness issues and thus needs to be handled with care. Typically, most people advice about 4 days in the fridge before worrying about throwing it out. Make sure the refridgerator is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius) for optimal lasting ability. Also, make sure the extra meat doesn’t stay out in room temperature for more than 2 hours after taking it out of the oven.

If you have a lot of leftovers to deal with then freezing them is an obvious option. The turkey should last for up to 4 months in the freezer.
